THE WESTLAND BUILDING
Constructed in 1907, the Westland Building was built as a plumbing wholesale and manufacturing facility. Since then, the building has served many different uses – from a shipping warehouse to a 1960s textile mill making parkas to, most recently, an office. The latest re-development builds on this eclectic history of the Westland Building by re-imagining it as a hotel. The design vision reflects the building’s unique historic character, preserved through seismic retrofitting and new sustainability standards.
BRINGING GREEN TO THE CITY
Native Pacific Northwest greenery will permeate the historic building, providing an escape to nature within the city setting. Through the conversion of the existing lightwell into a green wall running the length of the building, planters hanging above each entrance, and lavish rooftop landscaping, the vegetation of the region will be felt not just around the building, but inside of it. Guests will be able to reach out and interact with nature as they move throughout the building and passersby will get the impression the building is bursting from the inside with plants as they spill off the rooftop and out of windows.
rooftop bar
